CKY College Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir of the Choi Kai Yau College was founded in 2014 to offer experiential learning opportunities of hands-on music making and teamwork. The mixed-voice Chamber Choir is composed of approximately 20 undergraduate students representing various areas of studies, and is among the finest and most active choirs in the University of Macau. Students in the choir are selected by audition and maintain a rigorous rehearsal schedule in preparation for their performances throughout the year.

During the academic year the choir provides music for the College’s High Table Dinners and other university-wide events. its wide-ranging repertory includes music from Baroque master to contemporary works and popular arrangements.

The Chamber Choir is currently under the direction of Dr. Li Wai Chung, Resident Fellow at CKYC of University of Macau. Guest coaches of the choir include opera singer Dr. Wang Xi and A Cappella singer Mr. Fung Kwok Tung.

CKYC Chamber Choir Participation in the World Peace Choral Festival and Competition and UNICEF Charity Sales in Cultural Trip to Prague 2016

Participating in a the performances and competitions in the World Peace Choral festival was a great challenge for CKYC students to prepare themselves to compete with choirs from all over the world. Students from UM would be exposed to good practices through working with the conductor and choir members from Vienna Boys’, observing performances from other participating choirs, and received comments from the competition juries. At the end of the trip, CKYC students explored various UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage sites in Vienna and Prague.

From BAROQUE to POP - CKYC Invitational Concert 2016

CKYC Chamber Choir had the good fortune to perform and learn from the famous St. Paul’s College of Hong Kong and Macao Youth Orchestra, as well as Dr. Wang Xi, one of China’s great emerging lyric coloratura sopranos on Feb 20, 2016. The nascent CKYC Chamber Choir had learned a great deal already just by watching them and then singing alongside them!
