“Understanding Human Disease through Big Data Analysis!” This was the topic of the last CKYC Master’s Tea, April 18, 2017, Held in our usual haunt, G024, the College Fellows Salon. What a nice introduction to computational biology given to us by the youthful Professor Jessica Mar, who holds appointments in both the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland, DownUnder. Genes, she tells us, determines who or what we are. Understanding them can lead to better personalized medicine, and yet, by collecting data from large amounts of samples will lead to better overall treatment. The topic obviously has broad appeal as a record audience of 56 packed the room! Thank you, Prof. Mar for taking the time from your hectic travels to stop by at humble CKYC!
